A little more about Apothecary and mists
My mists... these are probably my favourite recipes I have come up with so far. There is a story to how I came across them. Last summer, I noticed my hair was thinning, and I thought it was either my medication or stress. I started looking into the different types of herbs that can stimulate hair growth. I wasn't interested in anything else, just encouraging hair growth. I knew of some herbs that worked well, but I wasn't sure how it was applied. I started digging, as I dug, I found witch hazel worked amazingly for your hair, and I knew I didn't want to put any oily substances in my hair, I'm all about convenience! Work smart not hard, right? So I decided I would infuse the herbs I found and the witch hazel to see if it would work. While putting the infusion together, I noticed how much I HATED the smell of witch hazel. This kind of discouraged me, I didn't want to put anything in my hair that I didn't like the smell of, as your hair can really hold onto aromas.
While my concoction was infusing, I started brainstorming ways to fix the scent. I didn't want to rely on essential oils here, again, trying to avoid oil in the hair. Then, I simply forgot about my hair mist solution. After 4 months, I remembered my hair mist and decided to suck it up and just add a small fragrance of rose and sandalwood to it. When I opened the jar, to my surprise, the smell wasn't so bad! The witch hazel smell had mostly disappeared and the lavender smell was coming through. I still added a sliver of the fragrance and it tied it together perfectly. I then tested my new hair mist after I showered, and the results were literally instant! No, hair didn't start growing miraculously, but I noticed improvement in hydration and it felt lighter. As if I just came back from a hair salon. My hair became more manageable, split ends were disappearing, and significantly less shedding (after continued use). I later went to see my hair stylist and she said she had never seen my hair so healthy (my hair has always been rough, I live in a very dry cold climate), only after 3 weeks of usage! So she convinced me to start selling the stuff, and I've given samples out to others to try and they are reporting similar results! So, I then fell in love with infusions and decided to make a bug spray as well.
Another component of myself that complements the need to create, is the fact I enjoy helping people and taking care of people. I work in psychosocial oncology as my primary career, I dedicate my life to supporting those touched by cancer in some form or another. While I can't cure cancer, I can help direct patients in alleviating symptoms caused by treatment. Which has lead me down the path of wanting to produce apothecary products to take care of those I care for and around me. If I find a recipe I have put together that shows amazing results and great promise, I share it with the world! Some recipes that I find may be sporadically used, or is for a very small niche, I will provide here.
